Biography

Welcome to my design portfolio website. Incorporated in this site is my design work to date, both commercially, freelance, university and personal. It encompasses various mediums of design, which can be accessed via the above menu - Website, Print/Artwork, Magazine, Emails, University and Photography.

My background...

I completed a foundation degree at Bournemouth University in Multimedia and Digital Arts in 2005 and went on to do a Bsc in 'Design for Interactive Media' at Cardiff where I obtained a 2.1 honours degree. Subsequent to this, I embarked upon my first role as a web designer at Ricnor, based in peterborough (www.ricnor.com) for nine months, designing websites and online management solutions for events.

I then moved on to Ideal World and Create and Craft (TV Shopping channels), also based in Peterborough. This role saw me designing a 26 page bi-monthly interactive CD magazine for Create and Craft Club members (of whom the company boasts 45,000) whereby I designed and produced a magazine comprising articles, video craft projects and artwork, including the CD wallet and downloadable designs. This, my most challenging role yet -fulfilled both my need to produce engaging design work, and challenged me with regards to the skills and knowlegde of the software required to produce the CDRom, as well as website, mini-site, numerous email campaigns and print based design work, including posters and flyers to take to Craft Events and Shows.

I have also undertaken freelance work, notably for Cherry Picking Crafts (www.cherrypickingcrafts.com), an e-commerce craft site, which was a large project involving a large amount of creative input and management. With this also accompanied follow up email campaigns. Additionally I have completed work experience both at the BBC (Children's publications) and for Surrey based band The Juniper Hill Blues Band.

My industry work has enabled me to hone my skills and become proficient in the following design programs: Abode Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, In Design and Fireworks, and to have a good working knowldge of handcoding HTML and CSS.

At university the nature of design work was very varied: incorporating graphic and web design, 2 and 3D animation, video production and a dissertation where I explored the relationship between identity, anonymity and the internet.

Of particular significance at univeristy I produced a Flash based website for local Bournemouth band the Never Nevers, an interactive CDRom 'Family Guide to Bournemouth' highlighting the attractions and how best to enjoy the seaside town and an advert campaign for Ted Baker which was entered into the YCL Young Designer of the Year Competition. The ad campaign was intended to change and challenge brand conception in an abstract and visually appealing way and is one of the pieces of work I am most proud of, having undertaken the project management, set building, photography and image munipulation single handedly. (See University section on main menu).

Overall, I thrive in pushing creative boundaries despite the genre (I never thought I would get so involved in the craft world!). I am very ideas based and visuallu switched on and in my work I am diligent, hardworking, punctual and passionate!

I hope you enjoy looking through my portfolio!
